Firefox 3OK so I missed a release somehow. Yesterday I posted info on a color management extension for Firefox 2.x and indicated that v3 was still in alpha. Well today I go to check and what do I find? Firefox 3.0.1 in not alpha/beta release. Just cruise on over to getfirefox.com, download v3 and viola you should have browser support for embedded ICC profiles.

Firefox 2.x Color ManagementIf you are concerned with proper color management, you have probably been disappointed when viewing photos with your browser. This is because most popular web browsers do not handle color profiles when they are embedded in an image. The next generation of Firefox, v3, will. However that is still in alpha release stages. If you would like to have color management in Firefox 2.x there is an extension on colormunki.com that will give you this ability. The link to the extension page is
HERE. After you install it go
HERE to see that it is working. Actually you might be interested to go to the test page first then again after installing to see the difference.

YEAH Spring!
I love this time of year. So many colors in the hills, so many interesting things happening in town. That is what I really love about Portland, you can be in town one minute and 10 minutes later be in the forest. An hour one way we have mountains and an hour the other we have the ocean. Such a wonderful place in such a wonderful world. What makes your home town special?

And the adventure begins...
I am headed of to Germany and Italy for the next 10 days. REALLY looking forward to the photo ops as we explore the castles and ruins as well as the quaint little villages and even the big cities. I will post when I can, so look for some fantastic (IMHO...lol) shots over the next week or so.
Also if you wish to follow the adventure from the eyes of two lost travelers be sure to check out my blog and photo gallery at

This month's question is White Balance.
What are the methods you use for white balance and color correction? I currently use the Auto WB setting on my D70s but I am noticing more and more that it is not always the best. So I started looking at gray/white balance targets and have found that clearly people have decided this is a great place to make some major profit. I mean come on, $30 for a piece of gray plastic with a white and black sticker on it? Well I thought about it for a bit and realized there is a great FREE option available. A quick trip to the local Home Depot and I can grab some pure white/black/gray paint samples. Around here these are available in nice tough plastic squares about 3"x3". Use the white to do a measured reading before the shoot and/or place the gray in the scene for one shot and viola I should be set. So any thoughts?
What methods do you use for this?
What have you found that works best with you workflow, pre-measure or correct in post production?
What "color" of gray is truly neutral?

What color mode is your camera set for?
I just switched mine from sRGB to Adobe RGB but I have not taken enough shots to really compare yet. Since I now have Photoshop CS3 I am thinking that this is the better mode. Also since I just acquired a Canon iP6700D printer for output I am trying to match up all the way down the line. So now the only question I have is how well does Nikon PictureProject and/or Capture NX handle the Adobe RGB mode. Anyone have any experience or thoughts they would like to share?

Spent the day at Cannon Beach over the weekend. We had a great time and I shot about 100 shots of the rocks, waves, sunset, etc... Some of these turned out pretty nice, though I REALLY need to get a polarizer and a ND for times like this. I also discovered a hair on the low pass, unfortunately it was not until the next day while pre-processing the images so it looks like I have a lot of dust off work to do

This is the beginning of the journal. In here I hope to explore the world as I see it though my lens and also share some of my adventures along the way.
